Karate belts
The color of karate belts indicates the progress of a
martial arts student. The system is called the Kyu and it originated
in judo, a practice that emphasizes restraint and using your opponent’s
energy against them.
In America, the order of karate belts go as followed (from beginner
to expert):
• White
• Yellow
• Orange
• Purple
• Blue
• Green
• Brown
• Black
The many levels of karate emphasize different techniques. For example,
beginning students who wear white karate belts focus more balances and
stances, gaining confidence and strength. It isn’t until the student
reaches advanced stages (black and brown belts) that they can embark
in combat.
